Fantastic BATMAN piece by Joshua Middleton. Has a real sense of realism, this guy should be drawing a Batman book.

why would they edit so much?
Even beautiful isn’t beautiful “enough”.
Seek within.
it’s with the help of PHI.
“Beauty is in the phi of the beholder”it’s because beauty isn’t subjective.. The golden rule or ratio has been studied, and proven in many ways to illustrate natural beauty. Phi essential means the code to life, the meaning. The equation all offsprings of mother earth embrace, from pine cones, to shells, to ears, to DNA strands. Through a collection of mathematics of the numbers 1 and 1.618, has been used to describe life, and everythings relationship to one other.
“Dr. Stephen Marquardt has studied human beauty for years, Through his research, he discovered that beauty is not only related to phi, but can be defined for both genders and for all races, cultures and eras with the beauty mask which he developed and patented. This mask uses the pentagon and decagon as its foundation, which embody phi in all their dimensions.”

THE REASON this is done for a front page magazine feature photograph- is because it is to represent a market and/or brand, rather then the person themselves. This post production is done for two reasons.
A) to smooth out all the rough spots - make the photo CLEAN
B) to structure and define beauty, creating a fictitious image to role model after, both crafting an audience, and solidifying a BRAND not a body.
C) to apply PHI to an otherwise plain image.
Yes she is beautiful, shes stunning. but according to the ancient studies - there is work that can be done.
The bottom line - is beauty in your eyes - WON’T SELL - so shut up.
They craft the piece to fit guidelines, to form shapes within the body, to emphasize beauty, to help tell the story. I know there is RARELY you will see a largely published photo on a magazine like flare - unedited.
WHY!?
because what’s the point - it’s a multi-mullion dollar brand, that they expect to make that back that year, so they better market themselves that way. it’s kind of like why does Drake say things people REALLY shouldn’t hear… and get paid for it?!
Because it’s a corporation with an agenda to illustrate a brand and sell it.
I don’t think ANY girl should look at a magazine cover in any iconic, role model way - JUST LIKE I don’t think an artist or person should really listen or intake any of what DRAKE or WEEZY for example have to say.
This model is beautiful, but the original image doesn’t have punch. people who want natural beauty on front pages - START YOUR OWN MAGAZINE - Because these publications are selling the CLOTHING not the fucking person.
They know that their clothing looks the best- on the perfect model
manikin even…
So they take a beautiful woman… brand her with the product. and then craft her into the product. following essential rules of mathematics, shape, & composition.
This is how it’s done to sell a product right and not waste their money.
Not saying this should always be done, but when it is - the reason is justified.
This coming from a Photographer, post-production editer, and an entrapeanuer/philosopher about the photographic industry.
I feel dude did a good job on retouching this image. and again, I feel this is only for front page features for the most part - because in 1 second of a time frame they have to introduce, describe, familiarize, and sell that brand. So they craft their subject into something that is naturally - perfect.
WOW… this is fucked up. Jennifer Lawrence is in her early 20s and they’re retouching her shots. WTF.
